SD-WAN Leader Silver Peak Debuts New Global Brand Awareness Initiative; Declares The Time is Now to Move Beyond the Router to an Application-Driven WAN Edge

‘80s inspired campaign front man sees the light and switches to Silver Peak; Frees himself from a decades-long dependency on routers

SANTA CLARA, Calif., October 23, 2017 – Silver Peak, the global leader in broadband and hybrid WAN solutions, today launched a global brand initiative targeted at strategic networking decision makers proclaiming the time is now to move beyond the router to the industry’s only full-featured SD-WAN solution, Unity EdgeConnect. The campaign underscores how technology has evolved since the 1980s, except for the branch office router, which remains cumbersome, time-consuming and still requires manual programming via an arcane Command Line Interface (CLI).

In the digital commercial, Silver Peak introduces comedic campaign frontman, Wayne McFarkus, who admittedly loves all things ‘80s and has switched to Silver Peak, freeing himself from a decades-long dependency on routers. McFarkus can’t go for using routers invented in the ‘80s any longer and is on a mission to help his fellow IT brethren do the same.

Beyond the Router: Architecting an Application-driven WAN Edge

An application-driven SD-WAN edge architecture eliminates the need for traditional branch routers. Only Silver Peak EdgeConnect consolidates foundational network functions at the branch into a single, centrally managed SD-WAN solution. EdgeConnect integrates the following network functions into a complete and powerful application-driven SD-WAN solution:

By actively using all available WAN transport services and bandwidth, including consumer broadband, EdgeConnect dramatically improves network and application performance and availability. The outcome: lower costs, enhanced productivity and greater business agility.

“SD-WAN represents the most disruptive innovation to come to the networking industry in more than 30 years and Silver Peak is fast emerging as the market leader,” said John Vincenzo, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Silver Peak. “Our customers clearly recognize that in a cloud-first world, it’s about routing, not routers and are rapidly responding by replacing their branch routers with EdgeConnect.”

The new brand initiative will aim to position Silver Peak at the forefront of a router replacement revolution and underscores the business value of the Silver Peak EdgeConnect SD-WAN solution.
