SINGAPORE, Oct. 11, 2011 — Indonesian financial services leader Sinarmas Sekuritas requires application reliability and performance over the wide area network (WAN) to swiftly execute customer transactions across more than 40 distributed offices. However, poor quality and packet loss issues inherent with multiprotocol label switching (MPLS) WAN connections throughout Indonesia can hinder the reliability of applications. Sinarmas Sekuritas solved these challenges with Silver Peak data center class WAN optimization between remote branch offices and the data center in Jakarta.
To support e-trading and collaboration applications, Sinarmas Sekuritas relies on a 20 megabit-per-second (Mbps) MPLS WAN connection to its headquarters in Jakarta, and 1 Mbps WAN connections to its smaller branch offices throughout Indonesia. WAN latency can exceed 100 milliseconds between most branch offices, and packet loss was as high as 1%. This equals only 1 Mbps of throughput delivered on a 20 Mbps connection.
To overcome the poor WAN integrity, Sinarmas Sekuritas deployed the Silver Peak NX-3000 appliance in its data center in Jakarta and NX-1000 appliances in its branch offices. The Silver Peak appliances eliminated packet loss (0%) and significantly improved the reliability of the Sinarmas Sekuritas WAN infrastructure and critical e-trading application. This improved branch user efficiency with faster response times and more reliable access to applications, and is ultimately helping ensure higher customer satisfaction.
“Silver Peak does not care how files are named, when files are updated, or how they are transferred across the WAN—they optimize it all,” said Hermawan Hosein, CTO at Sinarmas Sekuritas. “By eliminating packet loss and preventing unnecessary data round-trips for entire files or datasets across our existing WAN, we have saved IT costs by avoiding any new investment in WAN infrastructure. Silver Peak is also helping us improve customer satisfaction and allowing us to serve more customers without having to add more bandwidth.”
The Silver Peak WAN optimization appliances reduce packet loss and significantly improve the reliability of MPLS WAN connections. Sinarmas Sekuritas selected Silver Peak for industry-leading scale, ease-of-use, and unique Forward Error Correction (FEC) capabilities that optimize all traffic and applications over a distributed WAN infrastructure. Sinarmas Sekuritas benefits from Silver Peak’s Network Acceleration features to overcome WAN latency, Network Integrity to correct packet delivery issues and intelligently allocate WAN resources, and Network Memory™ to maximize WAN bandwidth utilization.
The Silver Peak appliances are complemented by Silver Peak AutoSupport, which helps speed problem-resolution, helps avoids errors, and improves overall satisfaction with the products without human intervention. This is especially important for distributed businesses such as Sinarmas Sekuritas where branch offices are in remote locations.
