Ramco-Gershenson Trusts Silver Peak for Strategic Regionalization Project

WAN Acceleration Improves Delivery of VoIP, E-mail and Document Management Traffic to Distributed Locations

Mountain View, Calif., June 12, 2006 – Silver Peak Systems today announced that Ramco-Gershenson Properties Trust (NYSE: RPT), a Real Estate Investment Trust (“REIT”) with over $1 billion in assets, has selected Silver Peak to improve application performance and ensure business continuity between its main facility in Michigan and regional offices being established throughout the United States.  Silver Peak’s WAN acceleration solution was chosen as part of a strategic regionalization effort, enabling the company to open new offices to increase customer service while keeping critical business applications centralized to decrease IT costs and avoid potential data security issues.

“The success of our first regional office in Boca Raton, Florida, led to an exponential growth in WAN bandwidth demands,” said Gary Goerke, Information Technology Director at Ramco-Gershenson.  “We quickly recognized that an innovative solution was required to ensure that our WAN could keep up with our growing business needs.”

After careful analysis of various WAN acceleration products, Ramco-Gershenson ultimately chose Silver Peak NX appliances.  The appliances are used to inspect all incoming and outgoing WAN traffic using Silver Peak’s Network Memory™ technology.  This information is stored as local instances on the appliances, enabling future requests for the same data to be handled locally.  This concept, known as Local Instance Networking, has led to 10-20 times average improvements in application performance across Ramco-Gershenson’s WAN and 98 percent reduction in WAN bandwidth in some instances.

Silver Peak NX appliances were chosen for their ability to improve the performance of a wide breadth of business critical applications, including the company’s MS Exchange e-mail, Cisco AVVID Voice over IP (VoIP), and custom developed document management system.  With Silver Peak’s WAN acceleration, Ramco-Gershenson can also more effectively perform backups across their WAN to ensure business continuity. For example, the company has seen full backups reduced from 90 minutes to under 9 minutes, improving the efficiency and reliability of this critical process.

“WAN acceleration has enabled Ramco-Gershenson to confidently move forward with any additional regionalization plans,” said Goerke.  “With Silver Peak, we can better serve our customer needs, while keeping IT costs and security concerns to a minimum.  Those are the makings of a very sound investment.”
