Silver Peak Joins Hitachi Technology Alliance Partner Program, Achieves Qualification on Leading NAS Platform

Joint Solution Maximizes Distance and Lowers Cost in SAN and NAS Replication Environments

Santa Clara, Calif., December 2, 2009 Silver Peak Systems , the leader in data center class Wide Area Network (WAN) optimization, today announced that the company has extended its partnership with Hitachi by joining the Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) Technology Alliance Program. In doing so, the two companies have agreed to cooperate in various joint marketing and sales initiatives that enable enterprises to best meet their internal business continuity and disaster recovery needs. In addition, Silver Peak has completed interoperability testing with Hitachi’s NAS platform, making Silver Peak one of the first WAN optimization solutions certified on both Hitachi’s leading NAS and SAN solutions.

“WAN optimization is essential for enhancing the performance and lowering the cost of offsite data replication initiatives,” said Marc Trimuschat, Senior Director, Worldwide Technology Alliances, Hitachi Data Systems. “Solutions from vendors like Silver Peak complement Hitachi Data Systems NAS and SAN intelligent tiered storage solutions to help customers drive better utilization from their infrastructure while providing the highest levels of availability.”

In the most recent interoperability testing, Silver Peak NX appliances were used to mitigate the adverse effects that WAN latency and packet loss have on NAS replication, while simultaneously maximizing available WAN bandwidth. This testing was a follow up to similar interoperability tests recently completed with Silver Peak’s NX appliances, Hitachi Universal Storage Platform and Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR) software. In completing those tests, Silver Peak became the first and only WAN optimization vendor certified to work with Hitachi’s SAN solutions in both Cisco and Brocade Fibre Channel over IP (FCIP) environments.

“Silver Peak is committed to working with the industry’s leading storage vendors to enhance replication performance, extend replication distances, and lower the overall cost of offsite data protection,” said Jeff Aaron, vice president of marketing at Silver Peak. “We are pleased to be working with Hitachi on various partner initiatives, including rigorous interoperability testing in both NAS and SAN environments. Silver Peak’s qualification on these products underscores our unique product architecture and leadership position in data center class WAN optimization.”
