Silver Peak Named by eWeek as a Finalist in the 6th Annual Excellence Awards Program

NX-7500 Chosen for Distinction in Hotly Contested Networking Infrastructure Category

Mountain View, Calif., April 5, 2006 – Silver Peak Systems announced today that eWEEK , a Ziff Davis Media publication and one of the IT industry’s leading enterprise magazines, has named the NX-7500 a finalist in eWEEK ’s Sixth Annual Excellence Awards program, in the “Networking Infrastructure” category.  Winners will be announced in May and honored at a special ceremony on May 23 in Boston, Mass. Analysis of the winning products and services will also be published in a special report in the June 19th edition of eWEEK and at www.eweek.com .

The Silver Peak appliance was short-listed by a diverse judging panel that consisted of eWEEK Labs analysts and eWEEK Corporate Partners, senior IT professionals who act as reader advisors to eWEEK’s editorial staff.  This is the first year that all of the finalists in the “Networking Infrastructure” category are focused on accelerating application performance.  This is a shift from previous years, where short-listed products have also included Ethernet switches, routers and Wireless LAN (WLAN) controllers.  This is indicative of a significant trend in the industry, whereby enterprises are centralizing branch office servers and storage as part of strategic IT initiatives.  To achieve this, they are deploying new acceleration tools to improve application performance across the Wide Area Network (WAN).

The NX-7500 distinguishes itself among acceleration appliances in the following areas:

  • Superior scalability .  An advanced 64-bit architecture delivers over 100 Mbps of WAN throughput and 2 TB of local data store for data reduction.  This is close to 4x the throughput and scalability of alternative appliances.
  • Application breadth .  NX appliances use data reduction, protocol acceleration, compression, loss mitigation and other advanced techniques to improve the performance of all applications across the WAN.  This includes TCP applications, like file, email and web; UDP applications, like Veritas volume replicator and NFS; real-time applications, like video and Voice over IP (VoIP); and interactive applications, like Citrix.
  • Quality of Service.  Traffic prioritization and bandwidth enforcement assure the delivery of sensitive business critical applications.
  • Enhanced data security.  Advanced 128 bit hardware encryption secures information locally stored on the NX appliances and protects traffic as it traverses the WAN.
