Mountain View, Calif., May 22, 2006 – Silver Peak Systems, a leading provider of network acceleration solutions, today announced the availability of the Silver Peak Global Management System (GMS). Silver Peak GMS™ is a powerful platform for the management of a Silver Peak-enabled Wide Area Network (WAN). It provides automated wizards to simplify appliance installation and management, and graphical tools for accurate configuration, real-time monitoring, asset management, and detailed performance and application reporting. Silver Peak GMS reduces the operational burdens associated with WAN acceleration across a large distributed enterprise, ensuring maximum application performance across the WAN with minimum cost and effort.
“With Silver Peak GMS, IT staff can easily configure large networks of acceleration appliances from a single location and eliminate potential configuration errors. As acceleration appliances are deployed in new sites, having a centralized tool with a point-and-click GUI for asset management and system-wide configuration keeps operational complexity to a minimum.” said Damon Ennis, vice president of product management.
Simplified Configuration and Administration
Silver Peak GMS ensures fast and accurate configuration of Silver Peak NX series appliances. An automated deployment wizard and point-and-click Web-based GUI assists with setup and configuration of all appliances within the network. Administrators can also create customized templates within GMS, ensuring consistent configuration across numerous Silver Peak appliances, regardless of location.
Silver Peak GMS facilitates day-to-day administrative tasks and ‘asset management’ functionality across an entire distributed network of Silver Peak appliances. This includes scheduled configuration backups, automatic software updates, and other vital device management functions. Silver Peak GMS can be used to drill down into individual appliances for specific configuration, monitoring, and management tasks.
Scalable, System-Wide Management
GMS provides a single, centralized “launch point” for monitoring a Silver Peak-enabled WAN. This includes easy to use dashboards that provide essential real-time information, such as device status and usage statistics, per-application flow metrics, and alarms. Automatic email notifications ensure that IT staff are always in the loop – facilitating day-to-day performance monitoring and ensuring that faults are always isolated and resolved in a timely and cost effective manner.
Silver Peak GMS provides extensive reporting capabilities that assist with capacity management, network planning, auditing, and troubleshooting. Both real-time and historical reports are available, including traffic statistics (data reduction, TCP flow counts, latency/loss characteristics, bandwidth allocation), application behavior (top ten applications, bandwidth allocation per application), and alarms. This information can be exported from GMS for easy manipulation and long term storage.
“There are numerous challenges associated with delivering both voice and data across the same WAN,” said Mitch Nabors, Network Administrator at Quality Built. “Silver Peak provides a variety of tools to assist mixed media environments, including templates for the creation and enforcement of QoS policies and real-time statistics for individual applications.”
Configuration, and Availability
Silver Peak GMS comes on a standalone appliance with integrated database, which ensures easy setup and maintenance in any enterprise environment. Software licenses enable the Silver Peak GMS appliance to scale from 10 to 500+ nodes.
The Silver Peak GMS supports all Silver Peak NX Series appliances, including the newly announced NX-5500.
Silver Peak GMS is currently available through Silver Peak partners.
