Santa Clara, Calif., February 14 , 2008 – Silver Peak Systems , a leading provider of scalable Wide Area Network (WAN) acceleration appliances, today announced the company’s NX series appliances and Global Management System (GMS) are now available through the EMC Select Program. Through this program, customers can purchase a complete solution for fast and reliable data protection across the WAN directly from EMC. The EMC® Select Program helps customers easily acquire all the required components that comprise an information infrastructure.
EMC will offer Silver Peak’s NX-5000, NX-7000, and NX-8000 WAN acceleration appliances, as well as the Silver Peak Global management System (GMS). The Silver Peak NX appliances have been tested by EMC and are available immediately through EMC Select.
Silver Peak improves data protection in EMC® SRDF/A® (Symmetrix Remote Data Facility), and other replication and backup environments by overcoming a variety of factors that can hamper performance across the WAN, such as limited bandwidth, high latency, out of order packets, and lost packets. The result is larger and faster data transfers for improved Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) and Recovery Time Objectives (RTO).
“With the addition of the Silver Peak NX series appliances, EMC is able to expand its portfolio of scalable solutions that help address the full array of challenges of data protection across the WAN,” said Justin Bartinoski, Manager, EMC Select. “WAN acceleration helps EMC customers better align IT practices with IT objectives, making it a perfect complement to our robust portfolio of backup and replication solutions.”
The Silver Peak solution is optimized to support large networks, delivering maximum throughput on high capacity WAN links and across many distributed enterprise locations. At the heart of the Silver Peak solution is the company’s Network Memory™ technology, an innovative solution for disk based data reduction. Network Memory eliminates the transfer of duplicate data across the WAN, ensuring that the maximum amount of information can be sent across the WAN in the minimum amount of time. By improving WAN utilization, Network Memory reduces costly bandwidth expenditures. Silver Peak also provides a variety of other optimization techniques to accelerate backup and replication processes, including Quality of Service (QoS) for traffic prioritization, Forward Error Correction (FEC) to overcome packet loss, and Packet Order Correction (POC) to handle out of order packet delivery.
“Silver Peak is pleased to partner with EMC to help enterprises protect more data using less WAN bandwidth,” said Chris Helfer, vice president of business development at Silver Peak. “Enterprises can confidently deploy a joint solution that has been tested by EMC and field proven to maximize replication performance while minimizing operational expenditures.”
