Storage Expert: Wide Area Network is Obstacle to Holistic Data Protection (Video)

SANTA CLARA, Calif., May 14, 2014Silver Peak storage expert Everett Dolgner speaks about the wide area network (WAN) being the weakest link in a holistic data protection strategy.

“Most replication tools do a good job of moving data, but those tools can run into problems when running over a less-than-perfect WAN,” says Dolgner. “It’s not uncommon to see a 100 megabit-per-second (Mbps) WAN connection only sending 10 Mbps of replication traffic because of latency, packet loss and other network issues that are outside the control of the replication tools.”

Dolgner adds, “By having replication acceleration deployed with replication tools, storage managers can overcome the problems that exist on the network, and not let the network dictate their RPO.”
