Major Electronics Distributor Taps Silver Peak to Optimize Global ERP Access

Silver Peak Projected to Save Classic Components More than 30% in IT Costs Annually

Torrance, Calif., January 31, 2011 – Global electronics distributor Classic Components Corp. is optimizing centralized access to its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system with data center class wide area network (WAN) optimization from Silver Peak Systems .  Classic Components runs business-critical applications over its proprietary ERP system, which includes everything from quality control and business operations, to messaging and customer relationship management (CRM) applications.

With distributed offices throughout North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, Classic Components relies on the WAN to provide centralized access to critical IT systems.  This keeps costs to a minimum, but in locations such as Sao Paulo, Brazil and Shenzhen, China, the shared WAN is subject to a variety of bandwidth, latency, and loss issues that make accessing the centralized ERP system hosted in Torrance, Calif. a non-starter.

Rather than purchase expensive private-line connections for its global branch offices, Classic Components evaluated WAN optimization products from leading providers and selected Silver Peak’s NX appliances as their product-of-choice to optimize the more affordable local lines.  Classic Components found the Silver Peak NX solution to provide the highest-level of performance and throughput, and was the only product evaluated that could optimize all forms of IP traffic.

“The cost of local lines in Brazil and China is attractive, but the poor quality and high latency of those connections prevents users from easily accessing our ERP system,” said Daniel Lee, director of IT for Classic Components.  “Silver Peak’s WAN optimization solution changes everything, cleaning up the WAN traffic and giving us more than eight times the performance improvement on our shared WAN connections.  We are even getting 13.4Mbps from within China to the USA, while simultaneously stabilizing latency.  This is amazing since international access through local Chinese lines are notoriously congested, resulting in frustratingly low bandwidth and highly inconsistent latency.”

Classic Components leans on Silver Peak’s unique feature-set that includes Network Acceleration to overcome WAN latency, Network Integrity to correct packet delivery issues and intelligently allocate WAN resources, and Network Memory™ to maximize WAN bandwidth utilization.  With the combined capabilities, Classic Components is projecting upwards of 30% in annual IT cost savings by decommissioning existing private-line connections, and avoiding investments in new private-line connections and bandwidth upgrades.

Lee added, “Almost immediately after the Silver Peak NX appliances were deployed, we started seeing employee productivity and morale increase because employees felt like they had a real solution to conduct business in their regions.  We are recording a dramatic increase in ERP activity around the globe, which means employees were doing more with the system.  In the end, this makes the company more profitable.”

“If you are sending anything over the WAN and are not using Silver Peak, you are missing out,” continued Lee.  “Silver Peak is a complete victory.”
